About The Position

The Activities Director plans, organizes, develops, and directs quality activities for patients, ensuring their recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs are met in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards. The role develops and evaluates activity programs that may include entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and education, and helps ensure patients’ needs are met through daily rounds, charting, and individual visits.

Requirements

Two years of experience in a social recreation program within the last five years, including one year of full-time experience in a patient activities program in a health care setting.
Completed state-approved activity training.
Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
Knowledge of practices and procedures and of laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in a post-acute care facility.
Ability to implement and interpret the department’s programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
Proficiency in applicable competency areas, including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
Ability to maintain professional working relationships with associates, vendors, and others.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information.
Ability to understand and follow company policies, including harassment and compliance procedures.
Ability to adhere to Life Care’s Code of Conduct and complete mandatory compliance training.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience with geriatrics.
Demonstrated proficiency in arts, crafts, or music.

Responsibilities

Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate quality activity programs, including entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and education.
Make daily rounds to ensure the activities team is performing to standards and patient needs are being met.
Chart patient progress and behavior appropriately and descriptively.
Escort patients to and from activities.
Make regular in-room visits to patients who are uninterested in or unable to participate in group activities.
Effectively manage and operate within budget.
Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude toward patients.
Assist in the evacuation of patients.
Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance.
Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment.
Communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team.
