About The Position

Somerfield Health Center at The Heritage at Brentwood is currently seeking a full-time Activities Director/Recreational Therapist to provide overall development and implementation of a varied activity and recreational program that meets the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of health center residents. Somerfield at The Heritage is a 5-star, 66-bed skilled nursing facility and 11-bed assisted living facility on the beautiful campus of The Heritage at Brentwood in TN. Requirements

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), or Activity Director Certification required to meet CMS requirements
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred; Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) or Activity Director Certification required
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in social or recreational program in licensed health care setting within last five years with at least 1 years’ experience in long-term care setting preferred
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel), online graphics, and electronic medical records preferred
  • Excellent customer service and hospitality skills
  • Able to interact and engage with geriatric population
  • Strong creativity and organization skills
  • Able to work as part of a team and to handle multiple tasks safely and effectively
  • Able to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff
  • Able to maintain professionalism and work well with others

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred
  • Qualified therapeutic recreation specialist, certified activities director, occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and provides recreation activities that may include, but are not limited to, reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, re-motivation therapy, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, outings, special events and one-on-one visitation
  • Reviews residents’ activity needs and plans total recreation program based on individual needs and resident interest
  • Supervises 5-6 activity partners/therapeutic recreation assistants on the health center activity team
  • Coordinates Resident Council and family meetings to address special interests and provide educational opportunities
  • Provides and maintains pertinent medical records, reports, studies, and schedules in accordance with state and federal regulations for skilled nursing facility
  • Responsible for budget preparation and inventory, supplies and equipment
  • Responsible for networking, selection, and contract negotiations for outside providers
  • Coordinates activities with other departments as needed
