About The Position

The Activities Coach is responsible for researching, creating, and implementing innovative and consistent activity opportunities both independently and collaboratively with the Activities team. This role ensures that activity and recreational services include regular community-based opportunities to facilitate inclusion, connectedness, and integration within the general community. The coach will also provide transportation for residents for offsite events/activities, assist with Club Arc East weekly, and help residents make decisions to foster independence in their daily environments and wellness/recreation programming. Additionally, the role involves assisting in conducting needs assessments, participating in the Manager on Duty team, and working flexible hours including evenings and weekends. The position also requires educating and promoting the mission and vision of The Arc Jacksonville and The Arc Jacksonville Village, advocating for the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental differences, and complying with all relevant policies and directives. Emotional stability, responsibility for resident safety and welfare, collaboration with other departments, and the ability to work without direct supervision are essential. The coach must recognize and address safety concerns, maintain a positive driving record, and uphold professionalism in dress and hygiene.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of direct experience in recreational and social programs.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Must be able to pass background clearance and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must complete a background screening housed and managed by the Agency for Health Care Administration called the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree with a major in public administration, public health, nutrition, education, or any related human services field preferred.
  • Preferred prior experience in serving persons with intellectual and/or developmental differences.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, de-escalation strategies, resiliency, resourcefulness, creativity, flexibility, collaborative thinking, effective decision-making, time management, empathy and crisis management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Research, create and implement innovative and consistent activity opportunities on/offsite; both independently and collaboratively with the Activities team.
  • Ensure activity and recreational services offered include regular community-based opportunities to facilitate inclusion, connectedness, and integration within the general community.
  • Provide transportation of residents for offsite events/activities in organization vehicle.
  • Assist with Club Arc East on a weekly basis.
  • Assist residents in decision making that will allow them as much independence as possible over their everyday environments and wellness/recreation programming.
  • Assist in conducting needs assessments or surveys with residents and/or natural support members to determine interest in and satisfaction with current activities and events offered through the Village.
  • Participate as part of the Manager on Duty team.
  • Be willing and able to work flexible hours based on program needs, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Educate and promote awareness of both The Arc Jacksonville and The Arc Jacksonville Village’s mission and vision through community involvement and inclusion of persons with differences.
  • Advocate for the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental differences to participate in community life to the fullest extent possible.
  • Review and comply with all The Arc Jacksonville’s policies, procedures and directives; as well as, those issued by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities.
  • Possess the emotional stability sufficient for performing all tasks related to the job including times of medical and behavioral crisis of residents.
  • Capability to act responsibly at all times in assuring safety and general welfare of persons served.
  • Collaborate with other Village departments to ensure residents are provided quality and interactive services on a daily basis.
  • Ability to perform required responsibilities in all settings without direct supervision.
  • Able to recognize safety concerns and take appropriate action.
  • Maintain a positive driving record for work-related functions.
  • Maintain appropriate dress, good hygiene and professionalism.
