Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication, supervisory, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent human relation skills and enthusiasm.
  • Basic math skills and demonstrated recordkeeping proficiency.
  • An elevated level of organization, flexibility, and ability to handle difficult situations effectively.
  • AOA Coordinator must hold a Group Exercise certification or be willing to obtain certification within a designated timeframe.
  • Successfully complete within 60 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/O2 Certification, Bloodborne Pathogen training, Child Abuse Prevention training, and all other required training as specified by your supervisor.
  • Ability to relate to, welcome, and communicate with diverse groups of people regardless of age, race, economic status, religion, or cultural differences.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and oversee engaging wellness, fitness, educational, and social programs that promote healthy aging and active lifestyles for members aged 55+.
  • Inspire a sense of purpose and belonging by creating meaningful opportunities for involvement, learning, and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with Health & Wellness staff to deliver age-appropriate exercise classes and evidence-based health programs that align with YMCA initiatives.
  • Support members in achieving their wellness goals by providing guidance, encouragement, and resources.
  • Build relationships that foster trust, inclusion, and a sense of community among participants.
  • Serve as a connector between older adults and YMCA services, as well as local community partners, resources, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Monitor program success through regular evaluations, attendance tracking, and participant feedback.
  • Ensure all programming follows YMCA safety and quality standards.
