The Department of History at the University of Washington invites applications for an acting assistant professor, specializing in the Ancient Mediterranean World. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time, 100% FTE, basis for a nine-month, 1-year, renewable appointment beginning December 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to offer courses in Greek and Roman history or fold this material into courses envisioned in other frameworks. Courses that branch into adjacent fields are also welcome if they are fundamentally historical in design. We especially welcome proposals for courses that could contribute to one or more of the thematic concentrations in the department’s undergraduate curriculum: Empire and Colonialism; Religion and Society; Race, Gender, and Power; and War and Society. The University of Washington History department is deeply committed to supporting rigorous, innovative teaching and scholarship. The applicant hired will join a thriving and welcoming community of students and scholars.
