About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. This role focuses on acoustics and sound mitigation for mechanical design, construction, operations, and maintenance within AWS data centers. The engineer will collaborate with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document sound mitigation features, ensuring compliance with local ordinances and identifying site-specific acoustic considerations. The position involves contributing to the continuous improvement of acoustical design standards and influencing construction on a global scale.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
  • Experience in commissioning

Responsibilities

  • Influence all aspects of acoustics and sound mitigation for mechanical design, construction, operations, and maintenance for global data centers.
  • Work with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document sound mitigation features using prescriptive and performance-based design approaches.
  • Ensure acoustic features of buildings comply with local ordinances.
  • Work with due diligence teams to identify, measure, study, and report on local acoustic considerations around data center sites.
  • Contribute expertise to the continual improvement of acoustical design standards.
  • Perform and oversee project-related work, including building sound modeling, paper writing, and document review.
  • Coordinate with public officials to establish basic site infrastructure requirements.
  • Coordinate acoustical mitigation requirements, supporting utilities, and equipment locations.
  • Provide detailed construction specifications for all sound and acoustics-related trades.
  • Prepare prescriptive designs for building acoustics and mitigation systems.
  • Prepare or approve performance-based design elements as needed.
  • Review all design disciplines to ensure they meet site acoustic requirements.
  • Ensure contractors have the necessary information to build data centers as expected.
  • Equip operations teams to operate and maintain facilities to meet goals.
  • Drive improvement of acoustic design standards and project approaches across the organization.
  • Work with third-party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress.
  • Provide high-quality acoustic engineering advice on a wide variety of projects globally.
  • Coordinate with global engineering teams to achieve alignment of designs and design objectives.
  • Coordinate with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries.
  • Be responsible for construction documents, code compliance, design and installation standards, water supply evaluation and assessment, testing, inspections, and submittal review.
  • Meet with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) as needed to ensure approval of acoustical features.
  • Participate in project calls to collaborate with all stakeholders.
  • Review sound study documents.
  • Conduct sound modeling of projects.
  • Design mitigation strategies.
  • Develop internal acoustical evaluation methods and strategies.
