About The Position

The Acid House Operator (LRS/ADS) is responsible for operating acid pickling, LRS, ADS, and related processing equipment to clean, prepare, coat, and process steel for further production. This role supports product quality, production efficiency, safe chemical handling, accurate documentation, equipment reliability, and compliance with all safety, PPE, housekeeping, SDS, and training requirements. The operator will work in a fast-paced production environment, including confined spaces when required. They will also be responsible for operating LRS equipment, ADS equipment, acid tanks, moly spray, precoat, bake, and related finishing processes. This includes pumping, removing, transferring, and making up processing solutions for tanks, monitoring tank levels, solution condition, process parameters, baker settings, and temperatures. The operator will ensure product cleanliness, proper coating, and process consistency throughout LRS and ADS operations. They will prepare, load, unload, and stage material for LRS and ADS processing according to work instructions. Routine checks and basic operator care for equipment, tanks, pumps, hoses, and related work areas are also part of the role. The operator will maintain organized, clean, and safe work areas around acid house, LRS, ADS, and related processing equipment. They may also work in indoor/outdoor weather conditions, wet areas, and dusty environments.

Requirements

  • Safe and efficient operation of LRS, ADS, and acid house equipment.

  • Completing assigned training.
  • Following lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Operating LRS equipment, ADS equipment, acid tanks, moly spray, precoat, bake, and related finishing processes.
  • Pumping, removing, transferring, and making up processing solutions.
  • Monitoring tank levels, solution condition, process parameters, baker settings, and temperatures.
  • Ensuring product cleanliness, proper coating, and process consistency.
  • Preparing, loading, unloading, and staging material.
  • Performing routine checks and basic operator care for equipment.
  • Maintaining organized, clean, and safe work areas.
  • Working in indoor/outdoor weather conditions, wet areas, and dusty environments.
  • Working in fast-paced production environments, including confined spaces.
  • Working overtime as required.
  • Assisting production manager, supervisor, maintenance, and other operators.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Accurate performance of basic math functions.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and production documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform frequent pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a production environment.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Forklift experience
  • One to two years of industrial machinery, chemical processing, acid house, LRS, ADS, or related manufacturing experience

Responsibilities

  • Read work orders, bills of materials, and product specifications to determine processing requirements.
  • Operate, use, and maintain assigned LRS, ADS, acid house, and related processing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Meet production quantity, quality, and efficiency expectations while following established procedures.
  • Inspect material during processing and verify product quality using required measuring tools, including tape measures, micrometers, and tensile test equipment.
  • Cut samples for quality control and obtain required approvals as needed.
  • Label packages and complete required production, downtime, inspection, and work order documentation accurately.
  • Report equipment, machinery, chemical, or process concerns to the supervisor and/or maintenance.
  • Use forklifts, cranes, and hand carts to load, unload, stage, and move material as needed.
  • Follow all PPE requirements, safety procedures, chemical handling practices, housekeeping standards, and daily safety inspection requirements.
  • Read, understand, and follow SDS information for chemicals used in the department.
  • Complete all assigned training, including monthly health and safety sessions.
  • Know and follow lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Train new operators as needed.
  • Operate LRS equipment, ADS equipment, acid tanks, moly spray, precoat, bake, and related finishing processes.
