About The Position

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, the Grain Etch Operator etches castings, dips castings into caustic baths, fills and assists in the cleaning of caustic units, and performs miscellaneous tasks. This role involves operating a hoist to immerse castings into acid and water baths, managing bath temperatures and electric currents, and handling caustic solutions. The operator is responsible for rinsing castings, stamping identification, maintaining solution strength, and reporting any product or process faults to the supervisor. Accurate time tracking in the labor control system is also required.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Understanding of basic math calculations
  • Ability to interpret instructions given and apply experience and training throughout the course of the day for each production job assigned
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions and write simple correspondence
  • Willingness to learn and, as required, help and/or train others
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations

Responsibilities

  • Using a hoist, immerses castings, revert metal or other materials into a series of acid and water baths, adhering to specified procedures, temperatures and time cycles
  • Removes castings from holders at completion of process and sets aside for removal
  • Regularly uses air pressure and water to rinse castings
  • Operates controls to regulate temperature of various baths and to adjust electric current used in electrolytic process
  • Loads castings into container and operates hoist to convey container into caustic bath adhering to procedure, temperatures and time cycle
  • Removes container from caustic bath and immerses into water rinse for proper length of time
  • Rinses castings using water pressure
  • Fills caustic bath with caustic soda or other ingredients and helps in cleaning the baths when necessary
  • Stamps identification on castings
  • Maintains strength of solutions
  • Marks routing cards
  • Reports faulty products and processes to the supervisor
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly
  • Accurately track time worked in labor control system
