About The Position

Veteran Employment Services within the division of Workforce Development (WDD) at the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking a self-motivated and highly skilled individual to fill an Accelerated Credentialing to Employment (ACE) Employment Specialist position. This role involves significant outreach to area employers, members of the Active Component, actively drilling members of the National Guard and Reserve, and their respective spouses. The primary focus is to assist qualifying customers in overcoming barriers to employment or improving their current employment by helping them attain certifications and licenses using their military training and/or experience, or by assisting them with short-term training and other programs and services within DWS. ACE Outreach Specialists also reach out to and sustain relationships with Veteran Service Organizations, local clergy, non-profit organizations, and other partner agencies to identify customers who may need or could benefit from DWS services. Additionally, this position will focus on the local Veteran homeless population and recently released incarcerated Veterans as they transition.

Requirements

  • Must be a Veteran. A copy of your DD-214 must be uploaded to the application.
  • Working knowledge of the Active Component, National Guard and Reserve and their unique missions and organizations.
  • Good understanding of Workforce Development Division (WDD) programs to include Accelerated Credentialing to Employment, WIOA, Connections and the DOL/JVSG Grant.
  • 3+ years case management experience.
  • 3+ years dedicated outreach working with Veteran Service Organizations, non-profit, employers, local or state agencies or clergies that assist with employment, homelessness and/or incarcerated Veterans.
  • Willing to work some nights, weekends and holidays when required.
  • Willing to work at one of the three listed office locations.
  • Willing to travel up to 10%, including some overnight travel.
  • Possess a valid State of Utah Driver's License.
  • Articulate communication skills.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create Veteran, Education and Community Partnerships geared towards significant numbers of Veteran/Spouse job seekers registering on jobs.utah.gov and/or an increase in Veteran, currently serving military members, and spouse employment.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform outreach to area employers, members of the Active Component, actively drilling members of the National Guard and Reserve, and their respective spouses.

  • Assist customers with short-term training and other programs and services within DWS.

  • Focus on the local Veteran homeless population and recently released incarcerated Veterans as they transition.
  • Help Utah Veterans, currently serving service members, and spouses overcome barriers to employment by assisting with job search techniques, resume writing, work readiness, and interviewing skills.
  • Identify and translate skills and training obtained through military service to civilian careers.
  • Assist and maintain relationships through partnerships with employers, with an emphasis on the state homeless Veteran population and recently incarcerated or soon-to-be-released Veterans.
