About The Position

This position functions, independently, as an experienced technician responsible for performing all tasks and duties that the Facility Business Manager assigns. The Michigan Department of Corrections is proud to be a Michigan Veteran's Affairs Agency (MVAA) Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer and actively supports military and veteran employees. Responsibilities include assessing the validity and accuracy of accounting transactions, performing internal/external audits and reconciliations, assisting with financial management and reporting, disbursing funds for accounts payable and prisoner-related transactions, and performing miscellaneous duties as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school.
  • Three years of experience involving posting to ledger accounts, reconciling accounts, executing adjustments, and preparing financial statements, including one year equivalent to an Accounting Technician 8, two years equivalent to an Accounting Technician 7, or one year equivalent to an Office Supervisor with a subclass code of BKPS.
  • Must report any possible conflict of interest.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) with at least 16 semester (24 term) credits in accounting courses may be substituted for the experience requirement for Accounting Technician 7.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree with at least 16 semester (24 term) credits in accounting courses may be substituted for the experience requirement for Accounting Technician 8.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree with at least 16 semester (24 term) credits in accounting courses and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement for Accounting Technician E9.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the validity and accuracy of all the agency's accounting transactions relative to DTMB accounting policies and SIGMA transactions and procedures.
  • Performs internal/external audits and reconciliations in order to create reports used as basis for projections and budgetary decisions.
  • Assists the Facility Business Manager on all aspects of financial management and reporting.
  • Disburses funds and documentation for accounts payable, cashier duties, and prisoner-related transactions.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as required.
