About The Position

The Accounting Technician III position provides professional services that contribute to the effectiveness of the department and the services it renders. This role involves performing specialized and complex tasks related to the preparation and management of budget and accounting records and reports.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of procedures related to school district budget and finance records or related area; and practices and terminology used in general and governmental budget and accounting.
  • Ability to efficiently operate electronic accounting equipment and a variety of standard business office machines and equipment.
  • Ability to make accurate mathematical computations and prepare accurate budgetary information and financial statements.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and public.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to use independent judgment.
  • Ability to supervise work of others.

  • Typing certificate – 35 net wpm (Valid certificate within three years of the deadline of this bulletin).
  • Typing/shorthand certificates will be accepted from accredited colleges or business colleges.
  • Copies of required certificates, transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application.
  • For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

  • Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license.
  • Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met.
  • Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
  • Assembly Bill (AB2534) and Senate Bill (SB848), mandates all certificated and classified applicants provide a complete and accurate list of every school district, county office of education, charter school, and/or state special school (Local Educational Agencies (LEA)) where the applicant has previously worked, regardless of the length of service, including full-time, part-time and substitute employment.
  • Failure to disclose any previous educational employment and/or providing false information in a job application may result in the disqualification of your application.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized and complex tasks relating to the preparation and management of a variety of budget and accounting records and reports pertaining to one or more of the following: revenue, expenditures, attendance, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general accounting.
  • Gathers, assembles, tabulates, checks and files budget and financial data.
  • Prepares input to the computer and utilizes the computer prepared output reports in verifying data.
  • May receive money and prepare deposits.
  • Keep departmental records, maintains files and prepares various budget reports or financial records and statements.
  • Provides information to staff and public.
  • Supervises work of other employees assigned to unit.
  • Provides technical supervision pertaining to areas of assignment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
