About The Position

Northern Wasco County PUD is seeking a motivated Accounting Technician / AP Specialist to join our team. This full-time, non-exempt, position offers a Monday–Thursday, 4/10 schedule. The Accounting Technician / Accounts Payable Specialist performs a broad range of accounting functions, with primary responsibility for full-cycle accounts payable processing and support across general ledger, financial reporting, accounts receivable, and budgeting activities. This role ensures accurate financial data, timely payments, and compliance with organizational policies while supporting month-end, audit, and reporting processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting systems
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in accounting or related field preferred
  • 2-4 years of accounts payable or accounting experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Process full-cycle accounts payable including entry, review, coding, and approval of invoices
  • Manage check runs, ACH/wire payments, and positive pay files
  • Manage vendor balances and resolve discrepancies
  • Perform cash reconciliations and record financial transactions
  • Assist with month-end close, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Prepare financial reports and update dashboards
  • Support accounts receivable reconciliation and entries
  • Assist with audits and annual reporting (including 1099s)
  • Support budgeting and variance reporting
  • Provide backup support for accounting functions

  • All PUD employees are expected to work outside of normal business hours when required during emergency restoration activities and to accomplish other special projects.
