About The Position

This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for full-time Accounting Technician 1 located in Fairbanks, Alaska. As an Accounting Technician 1, you will support the travel and /or accounting section of the division. These tasks include, but are not limited to, coordinating requests for goods and services or processing payroll which involves detailed auditing, reconciling, and detailed record keeping of invoices and payments; coordinating travel booking which involves auditing, reconciling, and detailed record keeping of divisional travel events for employees and clients; participating in the continuous improvement process related to travel and accounts payable processing for the State of Alaska. Your first 6 months in the agency are probationary and considered a training period, with formal and on-the-job training with your supervisor and your colleagues. This position will be located in the Fairbanks office. The successful candidate will be part of a team which coordinates and fiscally reconciles Divisional travel for staff and families which we serve, and/or the Regional Accounting Team which processes all other support activities including but not limited to payroll, inventory management and supplies. The Office of Children's Services requires staff to work overtime when deemed necessary. OCS Staff are considered essential and are expected to work during pandemic and other natural disasters. The agency also supports a healthy work/life balance for all staff. All positions require valid ID and successful completion of a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a criminal records check. A cover letter is NOT required for this position. Requirements

  • One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
  • Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.
  • Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
