About The Position

This position with the Utah Department of Corrections might be for you. The Accounting Technician III will prepare and process a variety of accounting documents/transactions and maintain department accounts. Accounting activities may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, revenues, taxes, audit research, and other related accounting tasks. The working hours for this position are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This position is currently not eligible for telework + a hybrid teleworking position.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of accounting experience or providing office/clerical support in a professional office setting.
  • Knowledge of reporting and documentation.
  • Knowledge of agency objectives, organization, structure, and mission.
  • Understanding of bookkeeping procedures.
  • Ability to support professional staff such as accountants, budget officers, managers, etc.
  • Ability to process adjustments to data and accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process a variety of accounting documents/transactions and maintain department accounts.
  • Prepare and process billings, claims, warrants, disbursements, and related documents.
  • Prepare and process documents, review for accuracy and completeness, update information, and evaluate against policy/procedure.
  • Compare elements for consistency or logical relationships.
  • Review documents, reconcile discrepancies, and make needed adjustments.
  • Enter data into a computer system and retrieve, correct, or delete previously entered data.
  • Receive, research, and respond to incoming questions or complaints.
  • Provide information, explain policy and procedures, and facilitate a resolution.
  • Write or draft correspondence, reports, documents, and other written materials.
  • Provide assistance and on-the-job training.
