About The Position

As an Accounting Clerk III, you'll step into a vital role supporting the financial backbone of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Protective Service (FPS) Region 10 Resource Management Branch, located in Auburn, WA. Your work will be a dynamic blend of budget and accounting responsibilities, where you'll be instrumental in compiling key statistical data, skillfully processing financial transactions through systems like FFMS, and carefully managing the financials for critical programs, notably the Protective Security Officer (PSO) initiative. You'll be a key communicator, liaising with various FPS Region 10 management levels, and using your proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe to prepare essential reports and ensure the seamless flow of financial information. As an Accounting Clerk III within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Protective Service (FPS) Region 10, you become a key player in the Resource Management Branch, ensuring the smooth flow of its financial operations. Your days will be dynamic, centered on diligently managing diverse budget and accounting duties. You'll be the go-to person for processing critical financial transactions, meticulously working within the Federal Financial Management System (FFMS) to create obligations, track payments, and manage requisitions. A significant part of your role will involve the careful stewardship of the Protective Security Officer (PSO) program financials, where you'll audit contractor invoices against service logs and expertly maintain declining balance spreadsheets in Excel to ensure every dollar is precisely allocated. Your analytical eye will be essential as you compare invoiced hours against contract agreements, monitor expenditure burn rates, and generate vital financial reports that inform decision-making by Branch Chiefs, Financial Analysts, and Contracting Officers. You will compile and update crucial budget data, transforming raw information into clear, actionable reports and presentations using tools like Microsoft Office and Adobe. Beyond transactions and tracking, you'll support contract administration from inception to closeout, assisting with modifications and ensuring all documentation is impeccably maintained, both electronically and in hard copy. This role requires a high degree of computer proficiency, a sharp attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of regional management as you gather and convey essential financial information. To ensure operational continuity, you'll also be cross-trained across various budget and contracting areas, fostering a versatile skill set in a vital government service.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint).
  • Competence in Adobe programs.
  • Ability to learn and become proficient in various DHS/MGMT/FPS computer programs and applications (e.g., FFMS, WebView, PRISM).
  • Capability to operate routine office equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to compile, maintain, and update data accurately.
  • Ability to take raw information, input it for archive/retrieval, and create various reports.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying information to all levels of FPS Region 10 Management.
  • High School diploma with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to be cross-trained to work in all areas of Region 10 Budget and Contracting.
