About The Position

Assist the Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance in the administration of the district's business affairs. Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Maintain district financial records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (required)
  • Three to five years of accounting experience
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  • Strong analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use calculator (10 key by touch)
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and produce required reports
  • Proficient skills in typing, keyboarding, and file maintenance
  • Ability to work with numbers in accurate and rapid manner to meet established deadlines
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures and data
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.
  • The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant certificate preferred
  • Proficiency in personal computers, Excel, Lotus 123, Access, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word and other business software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
  • Assists Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance in the preparation of the budget and development of long and short range objectives for the business operations of the district.
  • Establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control.
  • Devise and implement system for general accounting.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Perform monthly cash flow analysis.
  • Maintain the district investment portfolio.
  • Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepare balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected district financial position.
  • Assists Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance with preparation of financial statements and budget amendments for presentation to board.
  • Maintain physical and computerized files and records.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of accounting.
  • Comply with all district routine and regulations.
  • Assists Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance with preparation and publishing of the comprehensive annual financial report in compliance with Association of School Business Officer (ASBO) standards.
  • Assists Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance to maintain accurate and current computerized inventory records of the district’s fixed and movable assets.
  • Assists Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance to receive and open bids; tabulate results and prepares written recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate and current computerized inventory records of the district’s fixed and movable assets.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisor.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues.
  • Works with administrators, principals, directors, and staff regarding budget and accounting issues.
  • Work with district personnel to project student enrollment, staffing needs, building and facilities needs, energy needs, capital equipment needs, and other cost items for district and individual school improvement.
  • Assists Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance to prepare, review, and revise business department job descriptions.
  • Assists Assistant Superintendent for Business & Finance to develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure exemplary business operations.
  • Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and prepare all financial billing aspects of the MAC/SHARS program.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of assigned accounting personnel.
