About The Position

About the YMCA: The YMCA is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Specialist to support the financial operations of our association. Position Summary: The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing daily accounting tasks with a focus on accounts payable and general bookkeeping. This position ensures accurate and timely processing of financial transactions while supporting the COO in maintaining strong internal controls and efficient financial systems. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, and committed to supporting the mission of the YMCA.

Requirements

Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
1-3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, nonprofit experience a plus.
Familiar with accounting software (QuickBooks, Daxko, or similar).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Responsibilities

Process accounts payable, including invoice entry, approvals, and check/ACH preparation.
Assist with deposits and reconciliation of payments.
Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation.
Reconcile vendor statements and follow up on discrepancies.
Prepare month-end reporting and year-end closing procedures.
Support preparation for annual audits and compliance reviews.
Assist with preparation of the IRS form 990.
Communicate with staff and vendors to resolve billing or payment questions.
Assist with general bookkeeping and data entry in accounting software.
Enter annual budget into accounting software.
