About The Position

The Veterinary Information Network (VIN) is seeking an experienced Accountant to join their accounting team. This is an onsite position located in Davis, CA. The Accounting Specialist will play a key role in supporting veterinarians worldwide by ensuring the smooth operation of VIN’s accounting functions. This position requires comprehensive experience across all areas of accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting (both internal and external).

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of progressive experience in accounting and business administration
  • Foundational understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency in various software programs and quick to learn new systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, email platforms, web browsers, and VIN-specific tools)
  • Understanding of accounting processes and procedures
  • Ability to manage and prioritize daily, monthly, and quarterly responsibilities effectively
  • Clear communication skills in both written and verbal formats
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Adaptability and openness to cross-training and adopting new processes
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and tax guidelines
  • Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, QuickBooks Online, Xero, DataRails, Microsoft Office, and Adobe

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable about fixed asset management and sales/use tax
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of the month-end close process
  • Run desktop deposits
  • Input, maintain, and reconcile fixed assets
  • Analyze, research, and record sales receipts
  • Assist with internal control audits, including running reports and gathering documentation for auditors
  • Prepare and reconcile annual property tax returns
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for accounts, credit cards, and bank accounts
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Enter, maintain, and update annual budgets
  • Analyze credit card accounts and compile merchant account documentation and receipts
  • Monitor and close purchase requisitions
  • Perform special projects as assigned
  • Assist with accounts payable and sales tax
  • Perform other related tasks as needed
