About The Position

Provide Payroll services support by serving as the primary point of contact for employee and Agency payroll inquiries. Perform payroll and accounting functions including payroll amendments, direct deposits, federal and state tax processing, employee reimbursements, incentive payments, payroll reporting, travel reimbursement processing, ASRS ending payroll verifications, payroll communications, and employee time record approvals while delivering high-quality customer service. This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (2 days per week in the office). The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility, autonomy, and trust. Across our many agencies, boards, and commissions, many State employees participate in the State’s Remote Work Program and are able to work remotely in their homes, in offices, and in hoteling spaces. All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA).
  • Knowledge of Payroll Policies and Statutes.
  • Knowledge of Above average Travel Policies and Statutes.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of Automated Accounting System.
  • Knowledge of Financial Reporting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft (Excel, Word) and Google Workspace applications and general databases.
  • Skill in Analytical - To interpret financial data and correct errors.
  • Skill in Data entry- to record transactions in accounting system.
  • Skill in Strong research techniques.
  • Skill in Oral and Written Communication Skills to effectively communicate with other units/departments.

  • Skill in Accurately record data in accounting, payroll, and travel systems.

  • Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license.
  • Complete all required training.
  • Successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
  • Maintain acceptable driving records.
  • Complete all required driver training.
  • Maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11) if operating a personally owned vehicle on state business.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Payroll services by responding to employee and Agency inquiries, researching payroll issues, maintaining the payroll mailbox, answering phone and email inquiries, resolving customer concerns, and providing timely, accurate and professional customer service.
  • Utilizing automated accounting system (AZ360) to review time and attendance reports to determine payroll amendments. Process amendments, direct deposits, federal and state tax changes, and any payroll entries while ensuring compliance with payroll policies and procedures.
  • Utilizing automated accounting system (AZ360) to process merit and spot incentives, generate recurring payroll reports to support payroll operations, compliance and decision making. Audit and process or approve travel reimbursement Eforms, assist employees with travel inquiries, and ensure reimbursements are processed accurately and timely.
  • Process Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) ending payroll verifications and compile required documentation to process.
