About The Position

This position is a highly professional position performing independent and complex accounting functions involving local funds and governmental funds. It involves the independent application of accounting and auditing concepts, principles, theory and technical skills in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or other comprehensive basis of accounting to a major function of an accounting program and monitoring proper application of internal control within the local funds' activities. This position assists in developing and monitoring accounting policies and procedures. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, attention to detail and resourcefulness in determining the true nature of discrepancies are a must. Perform independent and complex accounting functions involving local funds and governmental funds, that requires the ability to analyze data and understand accounting reconciliations, establish and maintaining of allotments and encumbrances of assigned contracts, including monitoring Fixed Capital Outlay contracts, and process Journal Transfers. Responsible for the application of independent accounting, research, auditing, and analytical skills with the ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve problems, coordinates with budget managers, accounting staff, and other offices and assists them in auditing data, ensuring corrections are completed accurately and making recommendations as appropriate. Requires accounting knowledge, knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices, strong data analytical skills, advanced MS Office skills (high emphasis on EXCEL). Collect, research, evaluate, and analyze data to recommend and ensure corrections are completed accurately Review weekly reports, work with budget managers, accounting staff and other offices to solve any problems and ensure data is accurately reported Assist with reporting, research, and other special projects

Requirements

  • Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Children and Families.
  • Four (4) years of professional accounting experience
  • Experience in IDS (Information Delivery System) is required.
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting principles and practices is required.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate large volumes of data, research, and provide guidance to other areas on corrections as needed.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate.
  • Ability to prepare various financial reports, analyze, and interpret complex data.
  • Ability to work within fixed timeframes established.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft with focus on Microsoft Excel used to create detailed and complex Spreadsheets (Ex: V-Lookup, Pivot Tables, Sorting, Filtering, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in FLAIR (State of Florida Accounting system) is highly desired.
  • Other Computer skills desired: Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Access
