The Accounting Manager supports the Director of Finance & Accounting in overseeing the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, complying with government funding applications, fostering banking and funding relationships, and coordinating the annual audit process. The Accounting Manager plays a key role in maintaining strong internal controls, supporting operational decision-making through financial analysis, and driving continuous improvement in financial processes and compliance practices. The role also provides support to members of the finance team to ensure efficient and effective departmental operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
  • 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in a multi-entity or service-based organization.
  • Prior experience leading finance teams and managing audit, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in accounting software, experience with QuickBooks Online or similar platforms
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and formulas
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards
  • Skilled in preparing financial statements, budgets, and financial variance analysis
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
  • Experience in reporting to, and communicating with, government authorities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with a range of AI tools and platforms, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to emerging technologies

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and cash flow management. Ensure adherence to accounting principles, internal controls, and compliance standards.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including month-end close processes, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules as well as the preparation and monitoring of monthly bank covenants. Ensure statements meet internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Foster day-to-day banking relationships to support cash management and borrowing needs.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to develop and consolidate annual budgets. Provide guidance, templates, and financial data to inform operational planning. Monitor actual performance against budgets and provide variance throughout the year.
  • Prepare and monitor in-year financial forecasts based on evolving information and assumptions.
  • Prepare the submission of regional government funding applications. Ensure timely and accurate completion of required reconciliation, in compliance with funding requirements and reporting timelines.
  • Support the company’s insurance program, including completion of renewal applications, coordinating with brokers, and responding to coverage-related inquiries.
  • Coordinate and execute the annual financial statement audit, serving as the primary contact for external auditors. Prepare audit schedules, respond to audit requests, and ensure readiness and compliance.
  • Support the finance team, including training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Develop, implement, and refine financial processes and internal controls to enhance operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
