About The Position

The Accounting Manager will oversee the accounting policies and functions of MAGMA. Using their accounting expertise, they will manage and optimize the organization’s financial practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory commitments related to taxes and other financial laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • At least 5 years proven experience in accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, preferably Sage Intacct.
  • Strong knowledge of CRA regulations, including corporate tax compliance and GST/HST reporting requirements
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to management
  • Experience preparing customized financial reports for management

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ADP or similar payroll systems is considered an asset
  • Fluent in English; other languages are an asset

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support all day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts in accordance with established practices.
  • Review, prepare, and post journal entries as directed and/or approved by the Director of Finance.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, collections, payments, and vendor management.
  • Use and maintain accounting software, including Sage, to record transactions and support financial processes.
  • Assist with the preparation of routine cost allocations and financial entries.
  • Prepare and review bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Ensure transactions are properly coded and comply with internal controls.
  • Maintain organized financial records and support the resolution of discrepancies.
  • Monitor organizational spending.
  • Assist other managers in creating sustainable and effective budgets.
  • Ensure resources are properly allocated and aligned with the organization’s overall financial health.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant financial records.
  • Produce and submit regular reports to managers and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in making financial decisions and strategies.
  • Use financial data and reports to inform insights and help optimize the organization’s financial performance.
  • In the absence of the HR Manager, serve as backup for payroll oversight, including the review, validation, and execution of payroll as well as coordination of RRSP matching to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring the organization’s financial stability.
  • Communicate financial information clearly to stakeholders, including the board of directors and senior management.
