The Accounting Manager leads day-to-day accounting operations, supervises direct reports in the finance department, and ensures accurate, timely, and compliant accounting operations in support of the CFO. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for monthly close activities, reconciliations, internal controls, AP oversight, billing and collections oversight, and support for audits and regulatory reporting.

Requirements

  • A strong foundation in accounting principles, reconciliations, accruals and month-end close.
  • Direct supervisory experience in an accounting or finance department.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and follow-through.
  • The ability to communicate clearly, manage deadlines, and handle multiple priorities.
  • A collaborative leader who can balance hands-on accounting work with staff supervision.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. Bachelor’s degrees in a related field will be considered with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • 1-3 years of direct supervisory experience in an accounting setting required.
  • Highly motivated and organized with a strong attention to detail and analytical skills to help solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively under deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and capable of dealing with deadline pressures.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and current auto insurance required upon hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • Must be able to drive to and from other locations as necessary for your role.
  • Must be able to maintain healthy boundaries and positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Must be tactful and courteous in communication with others, whether in-person, by phone, or in writing.
  • Must act with integrity and demonstrate good work ethics including reliable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and develop direct reports in the accounting department, including setting priorities, reviewing work, and helping develop team members.
  • Lead monthly close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Oversee internal controls and help ensure accounting transactions are accurate and complete.
  • Review and analyze accounts payable activity, vendor spending, fixed assets, and annual 1099 reporting.
  • Review revenue, deposits to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
  • Oversee payroll ledger activity and related quarterly and annual tax filings.
  • Partner with the CFO to prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Support year-end close, external audit preparation, Form 990, Medicare Cost Report, and other regulatory reporting needs.
  • Produce monthly financial reports, key metrics, and variance analysis.
  • Investigate discrepancies, correct errors, and improve processes and reporting accuracy.
