About The Position

Civitas Senior Living is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to take ownership of the monthly close process across their community portfolio. This is a hands-on accounting role for someone who thrives on accuracy, deadlines, and solving problems. The role is responsible for driving a five-business-day monthly close, maintaining critical balance-sheet schedules, supporting community and corporate teams, and strengthening the processes behind reliable financial reporting. The position offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact by creating order, improving processes, and being a trusted source for accurate financial data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience with direct responsibility for month-end close.
  • Demonstrated experience managing deadlines within a compressed close calendar.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliation workpapers.
  • Working knowledge of ASC 842 lease accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience maintaining lease schedules.
  • Experience with RealPage OneSite or a similar property or general ledger accounting platform.
  • Experience in senior living, multifamily real estate, property management, or another multi-site operating environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the monthly close calendar across the portfolio, ensuring completion within five business days.
  • Manage daily close progress across all communities.
  • Coordinate journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Track outstanding items and escalate delays in real time.
  • Partner with community business office teams and regional leaders to ensure timely submissions.
  • Research and resolve general ledger discrepancies and miscoded transactions.
  • Maintain accurate workpapers and reconciliations for balance-sheet accounts.
  • Maintain and reconcile recurring accounting schedules including Fixed Assets & Depreciation, Prepaids & Amortization, Accruals, and Lease Accounting (ASC 842).
  • Serve as a resource for accounting and bookkeeping questions across the organization.
  • Support community and corporate teams with general ledger and bookkeeping inquiries.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable and operational teams to identify accrual needs.
  • Respond to external inquiries from auditors, vendors, lenders, and other partners.
  • Prepare schedules and workpapers for annual audits and interim reviews.
  • Support tax preparers with documentation related to balance-sheet accounts.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting support to finance leadership.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to simplify processes, improve controls and documentation, reduce close-cycle risk, identify recurring accounting issues, and build greater consistency across a multi-community operating environment.
