About The Position

Aston Carter's large client in Vancouver is seeking an Accounting Manager to join their team! This individual will oversee a team, and will be involved in managing annual and monthly accounting activities, ensuring compliance with GAAP and client policies, and liaising with various stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in property accounting with a focus on retail portfolios.
  • Prior management experience with at least two direct reports.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Yardi Software is a plus.
  • CPA designation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of 3-4 accounting staff.
  • Manage annual activities such as property budgets, cash flow forecasting, final operating cost recovery adjustments, annual property taxes, and property audits.
  • Oversee the completion of monthly activities including month-end closing, cash flows, and monthly reporting.
  • Review monthly and annual property accounting activities to ensure deadlines, GAAP standards, and client requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with property site staff, leasing staff, management, and clients.
  • Plan and oversee timing and completion of annual and monthly activities.
  • Manage staff workloads and ensure their continued development in necessary skills.
  • Provide training, development, and performance management for property accounting staff.
  • Develop technical, analytical, and communication skills of property accounting staff through targeted review and constructive feedback.
  • Support continuous improvement of accounting staff and procedures.
  • Assist the Controller in managing the accounting team, including planning and addressing staffing requirements.
  • Undertake special projects including process improvements and senior management requests.
  • Set up new properties and handle analysis and follow-up on outstanding issues.
  • Manage property sales/turnover processes including final operating statements, funds distribution, and GST/HST reconciliation.
  • Provide input for improving procedures and initiating quality and efficiency enhancements.
