About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to own and elevate our accounting function. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financials, leading the month-end close process, and building scalable systems that support a growing landscape, retail, & wholesale operation. This is not a passive reporting role, but rather a key position within our company to take leadership by bringing clarity to the numbers, improve processes and lead a small but strong team. This position will work closely with the owners and all leadership to make sure we are aligned with financial goals and forecasting.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of accounting experience (construction, landscape, or multi-division business preferred)
  • Strong understanding of: Accrual accounting, Job costing, Financial statements
  • Experience owning month-end close independently
  • High proficiency in accounting QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise and Excel/Google Sheets
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of recent, hands-on experience
  • Ownership mindset – you take responsibility and solve problems
  • Detail-oriented but not small-minded – you see both accuracy and the big picture
  • Process builder – you don’t tolerate inefficiency
  • Clear communicator – can explain financials in plain English
  • High accountability – you follow through and expect the same from others

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to evaluate, streamline, and improve accounting processes while rebuilding and implementing accounting systems as needed
  • Background in a growing small-to-mid-size business ($5M–$20M revenue)
  • CPA or advanced accounting training (not required if experience is strong)

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute monthly close process (target: ≤10 business days)
  • Ensure all transactions are accurate, reconciled, and complete
  • Review and approve: Journal entries, Bank/credit card reconciliations, AP/AR activity
  • Clean up and maintain integrity of the general ledger
  • Produce monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
  • Identify and explain variances vs prior periods and targets
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights to ownership (not just reports)
  • Build simple dashboards for: Gross margin, Labor efficiency, Net profitability
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement better workflows
  • Strengthen internal controls and accountability
  • Standardize procedures across: Job costing, Expense tracking, Revenue recognition
  • Ensure accounting processes can scale with growth
  • Supervise and support existing bookkeeping/accounting staff
  • Review work for accuracy and completeness
  • Train team members on improved processes and expectations
  • Establish accountability and performance standards
  • Assist ownership with budget development and tracking
  • Provide cash flow visibility and short-term forecasting
  • Help identify risks and opportunities proactively
