About The Position

Ag Express Electronics is seeking a skilled Accounting Manager to oversee the daily operations of the accounting department while providing strategic financial insights that support company growth and profitability. This role manages accounting functions such as general ledger, financial reporting, cost analysis, budgeting, and audit coordination. A critical part of this position includes analyzing manufacturing-related costs and driving improvements in financial efficiency and transparency. The Accounting Manager leads a team of accounting professionals, ensures internal controls are followed, and promotes a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. This position is located at our Des Moines, Iowa location.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Acumatica, SAP, Oracle) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, modeling, etc.).
  • Occasionally, the role may involve lifting and carrying office equipment or materials weighing up to a certain limit.
  • Ability to navigate various onsite meetings with customers and facilities within the organization’s premises.
  • Skill in exchanging accurate information with customers, co-workers, vendors, etc., utilizing verbal, written, and electronic communication methods.
  • Much of the work will be conducted at a desk requiring the ability to sit for extended periods while performing tasks.
  • Some tasks may involve repetitive motions of the hands, especially prolonged periods of typing on a computer to perform administrative and operational tasks. Ergonomic practices should be followed to minimize the risk of repetitive strain injuries.
  • Awareness of and adherence to safety protocols and procedures is essential when navigating the organization’s facilities to ensure compliance and minimize the risk of workplace hazards or accidents.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and operational reports.
  • Complete month end close activities in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Analyze financial data to support strategic decision-making and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop and present detailed cost and performance reports to leadership.
  • Enforce internal controls to protect company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting principles, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Partner with external auditors and tax advisors to support audits and compliance efforts.
  • Evaluate manufacturing and repair costs, overhead, and profitability of services and products.
  • Monitor and analyze cost drivers, recommend cost control measures, and track variances.
  • Create standardized quoting and pricing processes for highly customized manufacturing work.
  • Analyze the financial impact of operational decisions and process changes.
  • Monitor credit card usage and reconcile transactions; manage banking relationships and investment activity.
  • Supervise and develop the accounting team, including AP, AR, general ledger, and financial reporting functions.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations to team members.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively and promote a collaborative, high-performance environment.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation and operational efficiency within the accounting function.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy, scalability, and reporting capabilities.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, HR, and other departments to align financial practices with company goals.
  • Participate in strategic projects and provide financial expertise to cross-functional teams.
  • Assist the Executive Team with financial planning, projections, and special initiatives.
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives, projects, or other duties as assigned by the CFO.
