About The Position

The Accountant Manager manages the Accounting Department and staff, ensuring the completion and accuracy of daily processing, monthly General Ledger reconciliations, and Board Reports. This role is responsible for upholding all accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and state and federal regulations. Key duties include reviewing General Ledger reconciliations, analyzing and resolving data discrepancies, managing month-end closing, and overseeing CUSO Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Bank Wire Processing. The manager also reviews financial reports for Senior Management and the Board of Directors, oversees nightly investment of excess cash, develops internal control procedures, produces financial statements, writes and updates departmental policies, assists auditors, and contributes to the annual budget development and profitability analysis. Additionally, the position involves significant staff management, including participation in hiring and separation processes, conducting annual performance appraisals, assigning tasks, monitoring workflow, cross-training staff, managing the cost center budget, fostering continuous process improvement, and ensuring adherence to company policies and regulations like the Bank Secrecy Act. The manager is also responsible for providing appropriate training and recognizing staff achievements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Five years' experience (preferably in a financial institution) as an accountant with an emphasis on account reconciliation and financial reporting, or equivalent.
  • Progressive supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Accounting Department and staff.
  • Ensures completion and accuracy of daily processing and monthly General Ledger reconciliations and Board Reports.
  • Ensures that all accounting policies and procedures are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and state and federal regulations.
  • Review General Ledger reconciliations (all asset and liability accounts).
  • Analyzes and reconciles data discrepancies.
  • Manages month end closing.
  • Oversees CUSO Accounting.
  • Oversees Accounts Payable and Bank Wire Processing.
  • Reviews financial reports for submission to Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversees nightly investment of excess cash.
  • Develops internal control procedures and improvements to accounting system.
  • Produces or coordinates production of financial statements and other accounting reports for internal and regulatory and state agencies.
  • Writes and updates departmental policies and procedures.
  • Helps both internal and external auditors.
  • Assists in development of the annual budget.
  • Involved in producing monthly budget variance report, inputs budget information, and provides profitability analysis (cost accounting).
  • Participates in the hiring/separation process and conducts annual performance appraisals on reporting staff.
  • Assigns tasks and monitors workflow and examines strengths of employees and attempts match tasks accordingly.
  • Cross trains reporting staff to ensure work can be accomplished should an absence occur.
  • Manages cost center budget effectively.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous process improvement and elimination of waste.
  • Remains cognizant of and adheres to Andrews Federal policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Provides appropriate training to departmental staff and ensures duties are rotated periodically to allow for challenge and growth.
  • Recognizes and awards staff for accomplishment of goals.
  • Attends work regularly and according to work schedule; limits absences according to personnel policies regarding leave usage.
  • Interacts with co-workers, supervisors, members and outside contacts in an appropriate, professional manner which projects a positive image of the department and Andrews Federal.
