About The Position

As a member of Best Buy Canada’s Accounting Team, you’ll get to put your knowledge of best practices into practice and play a crucial role in helping to grow our business. The Accounting Manager, Controllership leads accounting for Best Buy Canada’s vendor funding program, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with US GAAP and Best Buy Enterprise policy as it relates to the vendor funding and support programs, which encompasses a range of activity including funding for vendor promotions, purchase discounts, and related adjustments to Best Buy Canada’s inventory balances. This role also leads a diverse team of 4 direct and 4 indirect reports that include accounting professionals, partners with cross-functional stakeholders, and drives process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and control. We practice a remote first working model, leveraging in-person interactions at our head office located in beautiful Vancouver, BC, for strategic, collaborative, and social purposes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a mid-large size organization.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing a team.
  • Strong knowledge and application of GAAP.
  • An accounting designation (e.g. CPA, CA)
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with large and complex data sets and related tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a retail environment is considered a bonus.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office and experience with various BI tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly GL reconciliation process, balance sheet and P&L variance analysis, journal entries, general ledger accounts and annual budgets prepared by associates.
  • Manage resources to meet month-end deadlines and ensure assigned accounting areas comply with US GAAP.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and cross-functional teams both internationally and locally, applying professional judgment in accounting for new business opportunities and processes impacting areas of responsibility.
  • Design and implement SOX & non-SOX processes related to financial statements, vendor and inventory support and month-end reporting to ensure compliance with SOPs and US GAAP.
  • Build a best-in-class controllership team, through an ongoing system of recruitment, development, recognition and performance management.
  • Assist the Assistant Controller with reporting requirements and other tasks.
  • Completes special projects and ad-hoc duties as assigned, including US GAAP accounting research and recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Influence, build trust, and make connections with all levels of a business.
  • Lead complex projects and think strategically to make necessary changes happen.
