About The Position

The Accounting Lead serves as a trusted finance partner to operational, engineering, research, and administrative leaders at the Texas Institute for Electronics (TIE). This role provides financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and decision-support services that enable effective resource allocation and support TIE's strategic objectives. Working in a fast-paced semiconductor research and manufacturing environment, the Accounting Lead collaborates closely with departmental leaders to develop budgets, monitor spending, analyze financial performance, evaluate capital investments, and ensure compliance with institutional, sponsor, state, and federal requirements. The position plays a critical role in translating financial data into actionable insights that improve operational effectiveness, support growth initiatives, and enhance financial stewardship.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Three (3) or more years of professional experience in financial analysis, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, or a related finance function.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience supporting month-end and year-end financial processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and reporting.
• Experience utilizing ERP systems and financial management software.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, advanced formulas, data analysis, and financial modeling.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a dynamic environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.
• Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
• Experience working in a semiconductor manufacturing, research, technology, higher education, or other capital-intensive environment.
• Experience supporting capital investment planning, project accounting, and financial evaluation of capital purchases.
• Experience managing government grants, sponsored programs, and state or federal funding.
• Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and federal grant compliance requirements.
• Experience with business intelligence and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or similar platforms.
• Experience developing dashboards, automated reporting solutions, and financial performance metrics.
• Experience partnering directly with operational, engineering, manufacturing, or research leaders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary finance partner to assigned departments in the development, consolidation, and management of annual operating and capital budgets.
• Partner with department leaders to develop forecasts, identify funding requirements, evaluate spending priorities, and align resource allocations with organizational objectives.
• Provide recommendations that optimize the use of financial resources while balancing operational needs and strategic priorities.
• Develop, analyze, and communicate monthly financial results, including variance analyses comparing actual, budget, and forecast performance.
• Identify key financial drivers and provide actionable recommendations to support informed decision-making.
• Support ad hoc financial analyses for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Review purchase requisitions, funding requests, and other financial commitments to ensure alignment with approved budgets, funding sources, and organizational priorities.
• Monitor spending trends and provide proactive guidance to departmental leaders regarding budget performance and potential risks.
• Support implementation and continuous improvement of financial controls and spending governance processes.
• Serve as the primary analyst supporting accounts receivable activities.
• Monitor invoicing, collections, cash application, account reconciliations, and aging reports to ensure the timely collection of receivables.
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to resolve billing and payment issues.
• Provide reporting and analysis to improve cash flow visibility and working capital management.
• Monitor financial activities to ensure compliance with University of Texas policies and procedures, sponsor requirements, applicable accounting standards, and state and federal regulations.
• Support internal and external audits through the preparation of schedules, documentation, and supporting analyses.
• Assist in maintaining effective internal controls designed to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Support compliance related to grants, contracts, and sponsored research activities.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives that enhance financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and business operations.
• Assist with system implementations, reporting automation, data management, and workflow optimization projects.
• Perform special analyses, financial modeling, and other duties as assigned in support of TIE's mission and strategic priorities.
