About The Position

Waste Connections is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join our dynamic team. This internship offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced, essential industry, providing exposure to both corporate and field operations. You’ll work closely with our Controllers and finance team while gaining insight into the operational side of our business—including ride-alongs with our garbage truck drivers to understand how accounting supports frontline operations. Waste Connections is an integrated solid waste services company that provides solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services in mostly exclusive and secondary markets. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • GPA of 3.8 or higher is strongly preferred
  • familiarity with accounting software is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist with invoice processing, vendor reconciliations, and payment tracking.
  • Support the review and documentation of capital expenditure proposals.
  • Help analyze budget vs. actual performance and prepare summary reports.
  • Participate in reviewing vendor and customer contracts for financial accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare and post journal entries under supervision, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Learn directly from site Controllers about financial reporting, forecasting, and compliance.
  • Join drivers on garbage truck routes to gain firsthand understanding of operational workflows and cost drivers.
