About The Position

Texas Hearing Institute (THI) is seeking a current student to join its Finance team as an Accounting Intern. This role will provide hands-on exposure to nonprofit accounting operations, supporting the Controller with essential tasks such as accounts payable, payroll data entry, and reconciliations. The intern will play a crucial part in ensuring the smooth functioning of month-end close and other finance priorities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in accounting, finance, or business
  • Comfortable working in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
  • Reliable and able to commit to an estimated 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in nonprofit finance and accounting is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Process vendor payments and employee expense reimbursements, and prepare checks for approval
  • Verify purchasing policy compliance and maintain vendor files, including credit card transaction support
  • Prepare the biweekly Open Invoice listing for the Controller's review
  • Compile timesheets and Personnel Action Forms and assist with semi-monthly payroll processing
  • Prepare monthly account, bank, and credit card reconciliations for the Controller's review
  • Maintain daily deposit logs for checks and ACH transactions processed
  • Support recordkeeping for fixed assets and the depreciation schedule
  • Take on other duties and special projects as assigned by the Controller
