About The Position

Big West Oil's accounting internship is a structured summer program for full-time university students. You will gain hands-on experience in financial record-keeping, data analysis, and reporting under the guidance of seasoned professionals. Position Overview: Are you a full-time student looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in the world of corporate accounting and finance? Big West Oil's summer internship program is a structured opportunity designed to provide you with the skills and experience needed for a successful career. Our program runs from May to August and offers the diversity and hands-on training necessary to become an effective, well-rounded accounting professional. As an intern, you will be mentored by a seasoned professional and integrated into our finance team to support the day-to-day accounting functions of a large-scale industrial operation.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Junior or Senior standing preferred, all others welcome).
Strong academic background in core accounting principles and problem-solving.
Interest in business accounting, Finance, and energy-related industries.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.

Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
Analyze financial data and perform variance analysis to help identify trends and discrepancies.
Contribute to special projects, including audits and process improvement initiatives.
Learn and apply financial reporting standards, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate financial data.
Maintain and organize financial records and documentation.
Develop data via visualization tools such as Power BI.
