About The Position

STG Construction is seeking an Accounting Controller to oversee financial reporting and lead their accounting team. This role involves producing accurate and timely financial statements and developing a high-performing team. The Controller will report to the CFO and work closely with them on business specifics and systems. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for the monthly close, consolidated financial statements, and managing assistant controllers, AP, and AR staff. The role requires reviewing their work, developing their skills, and providing support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or team-lead capacity
  • Construction industry accounting experience (WIP, percentage-of-completion, job costing, AIA, certified payroll)
  • Strong, working proficiency in Excel — you can build and work in it, not just read it

Nice To Haves

  • CPA
  • Public accounting experience
  • Experience with Foundation Software or a comparable construction ERP (Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Procore, etc.)
  • Multi-entity consolidation experience
  • Experience using AI tools to improve or automate routine accounting processes

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close and produce accurate, timely consolidated financial statements across multiple entities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team — assistant controllers, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Review business-unit financial statements prepared by assistant controllers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform multi-entity consolidation and maintain general ledger integrity and internal controls.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to the AP and AR functions.
  • Ensure construction-specific accounting is handled correctly: WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, job costing, AIA billing, certified payroll, and vendor/lien compliance.
  • Partner with the CFO to continuously improve close processes, reporting, and the team's capabilities.
