About The Position

Under close supervision, performs a variety of accounting duties involved in the creation and maintenance of complete and accurate accounts payable records. Performs a review of, and handles self-editing of, accounts payable transactions.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Hamilton County policies and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying accounting standards and procedures, applicable Federal rules and regulations, Hamilton County Policies and Procedures.
  • Skill in the application of accounting principles and standards.
  • Skill in the implementation and updating of financial and accounting information systems.
  • Skill in working under pressure of deadlines, establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with department staff and other County departments.
  • Skill in the process of accounts payable.
  • Skill in ability to process a high volume of accounts payable transactions timely and accurately.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to learn with on-the-job training.
  • Ability to complete recurring assignments without direct supervision and work under the pressure of deadlines.
  • An Associate’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited institution and at least three (3) years of direct work experience in the field of accounting or accounts payable.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct work experience in the field of accounts payable.
  • Prior work experience in Hamilton County Accounts Payable is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares routine financial statements and reports, relating to department programs, fund or grant budgets.
  • Enters and maintains financial information system data.
  • Records expenditures and prepares financial schedules, billings and collections.
  • Monitors, reviews and reconciles accounts, budgets, and various statements.
  • Assists with special projects upon request.
  • May track and review inventories, assets and procurements for finance department.
  • Maintains department Accounting, Purchasing and inventory Systems to assure accurate division of each program’s expenditures and program inventory.
  • Prepares monthly financial reports.
  • Maintains accounts payable.
  • Coordinates information between the finance department, other County departments; and external agencies to clarify and reconcile issues relating to County funds and accounting.
  • May assist in complex special projects as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
