About The Position

Apex Utilities Inc. is a provincially regulated natural gas distribution utility delivering safe, reliable, clean, and affordable natural gas service to over 82,000 residential, rural, commercial, and industrial customers in more than 90 communities across Alberta. Supporting Albertans since 1954, Apex operates over 21,000 km of natural gas pipelines and over 600 pressure and regulating stations through a network of 16 district offices. In this casual full-time position of Casual – Accounting Assistant, Management Accounting (up to 18 months), you will play an essential role within our Financial Services.

Requirements

Post secondary accounting diploma from a recognized institution;
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an accounting environment.

Nice To Haves

Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy;
Effectively organize tasks;
Intermediate Excel skills;
Intermediate financial software knowledge (i.e. JDE); and
Intermediate customer information system knowledge (i.e. VertexOne)

Responsibilities

Receiving, maintaining, and preparing for processing all payment information, source data and documents;
Scheduling, processing, and uploading electronic fund direct deposits to customer accounts and resolving any discrepancies;
Balancing and reconciling cash processing data to bank records and E-CIS system;
Setting up new vendors, sorting payables documents, ensuring payables are properly supported and approved as per Company policy;
Completing monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations, working papers and reports for property and franchise tax accounts; and
Processing payments and obtaining appropriate approvals
