About The Position

L’Alliance New York is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting & Administrative Finance Intern to join its Finance team. This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for a student pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration who is seeking academic credit. Under the supervision of the Controller, the intern will gain practical exposure to nonprofit financial operations while supporting a variety of accounting and administrative functions. Through mentorship and guided assignments, the intern will develop a stronger understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, accounting processes, and nonprofit finance operations in a collaborative and mission-driven environment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Internship must be completed for academic credit or as part of an educational program.
  • No prior professional experience is required; a strong interest in accounting and finance is essential.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling financial information.
  • Availability of approximately 15–25 hours per week, with flexibility based on academic schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily accounting activities, including invoice processing, expense tracking, and basic accounts payable and receivable support.
  • Help prepare financial documentation for monthly closing activities, reconciliations, and internal reporting.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical financial records and assist with document management and filing.
  • Support payroll-related administrative processes and assist with preparing routine financial and tax documentation.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate financial information across departmental systems.
  • Conduct research and prepare financial summaries, reports, or schedules for various projects.
  • Provide administrative support to the Controller and Finance team, including scheduling, meeting preparation, and general office coordination.
  • Participate in finance-related projects designed to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen understanding of nonprofit financial management.
  • Complete learning objectives established in coordination with the student's academic institution and internship supervisor.
