About The Position

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the Bank's financial records through the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and support of month-end and year-end close activities. This position ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, tax laws, and internal policies while supporting the Bank's financial reporting objectives. The Accountant partners with internal departments to analyze financial information, resolve discrepancies, improve processes, and provide timely, accurate financial data to management. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a high level of service to both internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • At least one year of accounting experience at a financial services or mortgage banking institution required.
  • Maintain & foster positive relationships with customers and business partners.
  • Complete all assigned training in a timely manner.
  • Provide professional communication in both oral & written expressions.
  • Excellent organizational, time management & analytical skills.
  • Able to communicate and negotiate effectively.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
  • Knowledge of GAAP.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting accounting records.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies, reconciling items, and out-of-balance conditions.
  • Analyze financial results and provide explanations for significant variances and trends.
  • Support preparation of board, management, and regulatory financial reporting.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Complete bank account, clearing account, credit card, intercompany, and other key account reconciliations.
  • Maintain detailed supporting schedules and documentation for all reconciled accounts.
  • Monitor suspense, prepaid, accrual, and fixed asset accounts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation differences while identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Ensure accounting activities comply with GAAP, banking regulations, tax requirements, and internal controls.
  • Assist in preparing documentation and schedules for internal audits, external audits, regulatory examinations, and tax filings.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and organized financial records.
  • Support compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory reports and financial disclosures as assigned.
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, wire activity, and cash management functions as needed.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, prepaid expense schedules, and other supporting accounting records.
  • Prepare accruals, allocations, amortizations, and other adjusting entries.
  • Perform monthly cost allocations across departments and business units.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Provide accounting support for special projects, acquisitions, new products, and system implementations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, efficiencies, and reporting capabilities.
  • Participate in automation, workflow enhancement, and system implementation initiatives.
  • Assist in developing, documenting, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with business units to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions and activities.
  • Attend Accounting Department meetings and contribute to departmental initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Remain current on accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
  • Assist in providing of information to internal auditors.
  • Assist in providing of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Assist in providing of information to examiners or regulators.
  • Assist in compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
