Founded in 1914 and owned by the Brown family, California Casualty provides personal lines home and auto insurance to affinity groups including firefighters, educators, law enforcement, and nurses. We are hiring an Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations, reconciliations, and reporting activities. As an Accountant, you will process and document accounting transactions, prepare journal entries in Oracle, and perform account reconciliations that support internal financial reporting and year-end audits.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and basic financial reporting.
  • 1–2 years of accounting experience (or related experience)

  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation and proactively recommend scalable solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

Responsibilities

  • Support core accounting processes across reconciliations, reporting, banking/treasury, and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Prepare basic monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and reports.
  • Support audit preparation and monthly/quarterly reporting requirements.
  • Prepare basic journal entries and assist with month-end close activities.
  • Help ensure compliance with GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles.
  • Place stop payments on A/P and claim checks and process exceptions in the bank portal (including fraud-related items).
  • Prepare cash balancing and support payment processing.
  • Reconcile payments (including EFTs), purchasing card transactions, Agency Services payments, and subrogation/salvage payments.
  • Process vendor invoices and resolve payment issues.
  • Process use tax payments, return premium, and lockbox checks.
  • Submit filings to multiple states.
  • Balance premium transactions using Excel and Access and upload related journal entries to Oracle.
  • Partner with auditors as needed.
