About The Position

The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting Alt Construction's financial health and operational clarity. This position is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities while partnering closely with the CFO, project managers, and leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and clear visibility into job costs and performance. This is an ideal role for a detail-oriented accountant who enjoys working in a construction environment, values accuracy and follow-through, and wants to grow alongside a company that is investing in its people and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience)
  • 5 years of accounting experience; construction or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks required; construction-specific systems a plus)
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to communicate effectively across teams

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger entries and monthly account reconciliations
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Assist with job cost accounting, including tracking costs, reviewing job reports, and supporting project financial reviews
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring proper coding and timely payments
  • Support payroll entries, expense reimbursements, and benefit-related accounting as needed
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Partner with the CFO on audits, tax preparation, and compliance requirements
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiency as the company grows
