About The Position

Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Accountant supports the month-end close process and ensures financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role assists with the application of accounting principles, internal controls, and the preparation of financial reports, and works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Reporting structure may evolve as the finance department continues to build capacity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, economics or concentration in accounting required.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in accounting in a similar position. Nonprofit experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with MIP Abila accounting software preferred or other accounting software.
  • Experience using ADP or other payroll software.
  • Must demonstrate good attendance and punctuality and complete all assignments timely.
  • Must have proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office abilities, with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Must have a high level of accuracy, excellent analytical, problem solving and time management skills, and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Communicate effectively with providers, other staff, and outside vendors.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment, have excellent writing skills and be able to prioritize effectively.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Must have the willingness and ability to adapt to change, including advances in technology.

Responsibilities

  • Records cash deposits based on nature of the payments; works closely with grants management team, billing, to understand deposit details.
  • Ensures fixed assets are accounted for in accordance with the organization’s capitalization policies and maintains all fixed asset records.
  • Manages depreciation schedules ensuring that depreciation is calculated properly and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures all shared costs are properly allocated on a monthly basis.
  • Works with other members of the finance team to ensure that all revenue and expenses are posted or accrued in the proper period prior month-end close.
  • Prepares and records monthly patient revenue entries.
  • Reconciles patient revenue payments in electronic medical records against accounts receivable in accounting records
  • Reconciles all balance sheet accounts, monthly, ensuring balances are accurate and any discrepancies are resolved prior to month-end close.
  • Assist with external audits and prepares any necessary schedules or work papers.
  • Works with finance team and independent auditors to complete annual IRS Form 990.
  • Prepares monthly budget to actual reports for managers to review
  • Works closely with the accounting team to prepare the organization’s annual operating budget, including ensuring it is loaded into the accounting system.
  • Supports the preparation of various reports, including Medi-Cal reconciliation reports, Medicare cost reports, HCAI utilization reports, and UDS reports.
