About The Position

This position performs a range of duties including but not limited to: reviewing and analyzing various ledgers, spreadsheets and reports within the State Integrated Governmental Management Application (SIGMA); analyzing and reviewing transactions posted into SIGMA to ensure proper posting and that they are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and theories (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) accounting policies and procedures and the State of Michigan Financial Management Guide (FMG). This position is also responsible for analyzing year-end accounting entries, maintaining databases and control records.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.
  • Accountant 10: One year of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant 9 or Auditor 9.
  • Accountant P11: Two years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant 10, Auditor 10, or Assistant Auditor General 10.
  • Employees will be provided computers to perform state work.
  • Phones may also be provided for necessary communications.
  • The use of artificial intelligence (AI) software of any kind is prohibited in all areas of the selection process; including, but not limited to, responses to application questions, and responses to interview questions or exercises.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.
  • Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.
