About The Position

KUNR, a public radio station affiliated with the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), is seeking an Accountant. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with FCC regulations and financial matters, providing high-level financial reporting to UNR leadership. The Accountant will manage KUNR’s financial position, including revenues and expenses, and ensure compliance with grant requirements from multiple agencies. This role is crucial for maintaining best practices, internal controls, and aligning financial resources with KUNR’s strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and two years of related experience; OR a Master’s Degree in Accounting and one year of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and maintain all Workday accounts, including grant and foundation accounts.
  • Process budget revisions, accounting adjustments, journal vouchers (JVs), and manual journals in Workday.
  • Perform other regular accounting transactions as required in Workday.
  • Reconcile all accounts against the UNR Trial Balance monthly for expenses and revenues.
  • Create monthly profit and loss reports.
  • Notify KUNR leadership of any questions, concerns, or issues.
  • Submit reconciliations for review and sign off by station leadership.
  • Provide budget projections on expenses and revenues.
  • Report on budget-to-actual comparisons to station leadership.
  • Prepare financial reports and statements as requested.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports for internal and external use.
  • Create and maintain advanced spreadsheets with automation to save time reconciling financials.
  • Develop and program macros for reconciliation and data analysis related to UNR Foundation and UNR Controllers office Workday expense and revenue reports.
  • Stay abreast of Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulations, guidelines and other compliance matters.
