About The Position

To conduct financial accounting activities including preparation of financial reports and statements; monitor account activities and handle compliance issues for restricted accounts; and provide assistance with annual audit process.

Requirements

  • Automated financial systems.
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Financial reporting and auditing processes.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Preparing monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Assisting with monthly and year-end close activities.
  • Collaborating with staff to resolve matters relating to financial reporting and audit processes.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.
  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
  • Use automated financial systems.
  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Four years of work experience in accounting.
  • Master in Professional Accounting (MPA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares journal entries, reviews, reconciles and analyzes general ledger accounts.
  • Monitors and reconciles reports to the general ledger transactions for accuracy.
  • Assures compliance with external agency requirements and informs management of any modifications or additions to reporting requirements.
  • Assists with the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, ad hoc reports, and other financial accounting statements.
  • Develops or assists with developing procedures to improve departmental workflows.
  • Interfaces with internal and external parties as required ensuring provision of accurate information.
  • Provides assistance with the annual audit process as required.
  • Stays current with new accounting pronouncements related to financial reporting for higher education.
  • Reviews source documents for compliance with rules and regulations; and determines the handling of transactions within designated limits.
  • Collaborates with internal and external business partners to resolve matters relating to financial reporting and audit preparation.
  • Assists with month-end and fiscal year-end close and other duties as needed.
  • Responds to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
  • Prepares custom reports by studying variances; preparing and reviewing budgets; and developing forecasts.
  • Complies with state and federal requirements by studying regulations, adhering to requirements, and collaborating with leadership on the required actions.
  • Acts as backup for the manager or director of the department.
