About The Position

The Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a professional consulting engineering firm, with a focus on project accounting, financial reporting, and day-to-day accounting activities. This role works closely with leadership, project managers, and operations staff to ensure accurate financial tracking, compliance, and efficient business operations. The Accountant plays a key role in supporting project delivery, financial controls, and overall firm performance.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• Experience in an accounting role within a professional services or project-based environment
• Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial controls
• Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet tools
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Nice To Haves

• Experience in an engineering, architecture, or consulting firm
• Familiarity with project accounting and WIP-based billing
• Progress toward or completion of a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA)
• Experience working with time-based billing and project cost tracking

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Support project-based accounting, including project setup, cost tracking, and revenue recognition
• Prepare and issue client invoices in coordination with project managers
• Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), billing status, and project financial performance
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare financial reports and summaries for leadership and management
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow tracking
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, or payroll providers as required
• Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and accounting policies
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
• Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and system
