About The Position

Position Summary: The Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations, including ledger maintenance, payroll, accounts payable, as well as associated analysis and reporting. The Accountant must understand the financial interconnections of the numerous and varied ski area departments. The Accountant reports to and works closely with the Controller.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of general accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Experience with month-end close and reconciliations
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in seasonal or operationally dynamic environments preferred
  • Most work will be performed in a busy and open office environment with frequent interruptions while sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift materials and office supplies and equipment up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to hear verbal conversations with background noise.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monthly close process
  • Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries
  • Complete timely reconciliations of all assigned accounts
  • Review and analyze account activity to identify discrepancies or trends
  • Assist with year-end close and external audit preparation
  • Support preparation of annual financial statements
  • Prepare monthly internal financial reports
  • Assist in preparing budget-to-actual analyses
  • Provide financial data and explanations to department managers
  • Support budget development and forecasting processes
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost awareness
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Support audit requests and documentation needs
  • Maintain strong internal controls and separation of duties
  • Assist with regulatory reporting as required
  • Serve as a resource for managers and administrative staff regarding financial processes
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully across departments
  • Help train or guide staff on financial procedures when needed
  • Approach questions and challenges with a solution-oriented mindset
  • Identify, propose and implement check and balance process in assigned work
  • Assist the Accounting department with other tasks and projects as needed
  • Follow safety guidelines as described in the Accident Prevention Plan and as trained
  • Report safety concerns directly to the Controller, Director of Mountain Operations, and General Manager as trained.
  • Actively participate in fostering a positive safety culture through words and actions.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
