About The Position

McKinley has 5 locations throughout southern California with our main campus located in San Dimas. The Accountant is responsible for analyzing trends and variances, updating the general ledger, and reporting as required by the agency and funding sources. This role requires discretion and independent judgment in performing routine and complex departmental accounting and record-keeping functions.

Requirements

  • A Business related degree required from an accredited College or University.
  • Has 2-4 years of accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting and GAAP and demonstrates knowledge of fiscal regulations.
  • Proficiency Microsoft Office application; especially Excel;
  • Relevant Accounting Software;
  • General Office Skills
  • Excellent written and Communication Skills.
  • Must be highly detail oriented and organized.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance creativity, problem solving, and results.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • CPA license is preferred but not required.
  • Non-Profit preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility is to assist with the preparation of financial statements and support schedules according to corporate timelines
  • Assists in monitoring Department of Mental Health, Foster Family Agency, Residential and Non Public School invoicing.
  • Analyze and reconcile Department of Mental Health billing.
  • Manage general accounting tasks on the Accounting G/L Application (MAS 90).
  • Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Post journal entries for accrued expenses and revenue
  • Update aging reports on a monthly basis
  • Manage and monitor Fixed Assets
  • Assist with the monthly close procedures
  • Analyze and reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
  • Prepare account reconciliations (cash, liabilities, fixed assets, payroll accruals) and supporting sub-ledgers
  • Research and resolve account reconciling items
  • Reconcile and break-out employee allocation for insurance invoices
  • Provide timely reports to McKinley’s management team
  • Assist other departments for petty cash request/receipts processing
  • Actively participate in the agency’s Program Quality Improvement (PQI) plan
  • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Assist with preparation of audit sampling package for external & internal audits
  • Support other team members as necessary
  • Assist in Payroll functions/processing as necessary.
  • Perform additional assignments or projects as assigned.
