About The Position

The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Management and Finance has a vacancy. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare. Step into a high-impact accounting position with the Department of Environmental Quality, where your expertise goes beyond spreadsheets. You’ll lead complex financial operations, oversee revenue tracking and collections, and ensure every dollar is accounted for with precision and purpose. From cost accounting to accounts receivable, your work will directly support environmental initiatives that matter.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex accounting activities, including managing collections, revenue control, cost accounting, and accounts receivable functions.
  • Review, prepare, and analyze financial statements and reports related to departmental revenue and deposits.
  • Ensure all accounting practices comply with GAAP, GASB standards, and governmental fund accounting principles.
  • Apply state laws, policies, and Department of Environmental Quality procedures to maintain accurate and compliant financial operations.
  • Collaborate with and report to accounting leadership, receiving supervision from the Accounts Receivable Accountant Manager and overall direction from the Accountant Administrator.
