About The Position

This position helps to ensure that the Organizations’ financial accounting standards are adhered to. This position will handle a variety of accounting functions within the Headquarters Accounting Unit, as detailed below. The position will work across all countries including the USA (Muscle Shoals, Washington D.C.). This position involves preparing monthly financial statements and maintaining various accounting records at IFDC. Duties may include: Prepare the monthly financial statements and underlying documentation (e.g., trial balance, fixed asset, cash flow, detailed expenditures, month-end journal vouchers); Prepare expenditure reports as required e.g., preparing donor reports, auditing international books and records, reconciling detailed records to supporting documents, issuing monthly expenditure statements; Prepare, process and maintain monthly cash flow statements against outstanding accounts receivable records; Assist in the updating and maintaining of employee records (e.g., salary benefits, home leave costs, time sheets, reconciliations); Assist with forms/documents needed for the U.S. Tax Form 990 and other related U.S. Government Documents; Assist in the preparation of the audit schedules required during the yearly Audit; Perform other duties including a variety of other minor related duties as required (e.g., executing both incoming and outgoing wire transfers).

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accounting standards, principles and practices in order to develop and maintain records and reports
  • Ability to apply basic knowledge of foreign currency translation principles to maintain accounting records
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively (e.g., prepare detailed financial statements, monitor and instruct national accounting personnel)
  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Have 3-5 years of relevant work experience (including international accounting)
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be tactful, mature, and flexible during difficult circumstances
  • Ability to use a personal computer effectively to maintain accounting records and to run related reports
  • Multi-cultural sensitivity is essential
