About The Position

The New York City Employees Retirement System is seeking a candidate to work in the Pension Payroll unit within the Retirement & Pension Benefits division. This selected candidate will be responsible for checking calculations performed for beneficiary and pensioner benefits. Within the unit, the candidate will support the unit as a Checker with responsibilities in processing requests, and applying adjustments to pensioners’ accounts based on QUADRO’s, Income Executions and Tax Levy’s.

Requirements

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or
A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I (to be eligible for Assignment Level II)
At least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience (to be eligible for Assignment Level II)

Responsibilities

Checking calculations performed for beneficiary and pensioner benefits
Collaborating with internal staff and business units
Preparing ad-hoc client letters
Supporting document retention efforts
Use of Salesforce for case management purposes
Preparing various spreadsheets for use in determining eligibility requirements, and/or beneficiary entitlements
Completing outgoing client letters and electronic communications
Satisfying client inquiries escalated from NYCERS Customer Service division
Satisfying daily assigned Checker case reviews
Fulfilling high-priority escalations submitted electronically
Maintaining assigned case queue at the discretion of the unit supervisor
